This years trollofon festival is over and has been a major success! More people than ever took the old Sputnik (as far as it would go before the meltdown) and the evenings at Landmark where packed with Trolleyheads.

Sagor & Swing, Fm3, Janek Schaefer and Es will take care of the concerts in the trolleybus, and together with the rest they will also play the trolleyclub friday and saturday night at Landmark, Bergen Kunsthall.

The sleeping trolleys of Pleven

A few days ago the pilota headquarters received an intriguing mail from a trolleyspotter in Pleven - it read:

Hi there!

I like your trolleybus site. Congratulations for your dedication to save the Bergen trolley system!

Maybe you will be interested to learn some queer facts about the trolleys of my hometown Pleven, Bulgaria.

Pleven is probably the only trolleybus city in Europe where the carmen park the vehicles in front of their homes (like own car) in the evenings. The depot in town has a capacity of about 20 vehicles while there are 83 trolleys in Pleven. As Pleven is relatively small town the parked trolleys seem to be everywhere parked around the residential areas. You can see them "sleeping" on the sidewalks, on the grass near the road or just on the right side of the main streets. That`s why the town looks like a trolleybus depot.

Pleven has a population of 140 000 and 15 trolley lines (70 km trolley route) . The network covers almost all of the town`s streets.

If you are interested I could send you pictures of the Pleven trolleys. All of them are old Soviet ZIU-9.

His music has been applauded for it's generous complexity and tasteful mix of warm, layered acoustic drones and electronics. Electrolux is a weekly radioshow at the Studentradio
in Bergen, Norway. Every tuesday between 18:00-19:00,
we play electronic music that probably doesn't get
much airplay elsewhere in Norway.

After 3 years on the air, we have now decided to stop
producing Electrolux Radio. This is of course a little
bit sad, but instead of crying our eyes red we'll
arrange a great party! The last Electrolux show ever

The radiostream from pilota.fm has just been updated. Sorry for the delay! This month pilota.fm associate Espen S. Eide (phonophani, alog) have put together a collection of the tracks that have been sent to the pilota mailbox over the past few months. Thanks to Sergey Bakanev (Mombus) in Murmansk and Alexei Borisov in Moscow a lot of fresh russian music have made it onto the stream. Enjoy! Here is the playlist.

Lokofon 04

Parts of the pilota team have been working hard this summer organizing the first ever lokofon! The lokofon is music on the northermost railroad in the world - the old 8 km line from Kirkenes to the mines at Bj�rnevatn. Apart from running on diesel and not electricity it bears a striking similarity to the trollofon! In danger of being shut down, rural readers - the pilota sister project - would like instead to extend the line into Russia to connect to the trans-siberian line. This is the third Phonophani album, the second for Rune Grammofon.

"The title �Oak or Rock� refers to mysterious connections between material things, and the album is all about rediscovering the great mystery of music. Through dissecting the sound of ordinary or �real� instruments such as cello, vibraphone, guitars, trumpets and the human voice and dissolving melodies into their elementary particles, Espen Sommer Eide seeks to excavate the �ur� music itself. Instruments are often sampled and manipulated using software designed and made by himself, being a keen programmer who prefers this to the so-called industry standards, giving the album a personal and unique sound. Maja Ratkje and Nicholas H. M�llerhaug have also contributed with voice and cello on oak or rock."
